The Lord Resistance Army (LRA), once again reared its ugly head last
week when it killed a number of civilians and SPLA soldiers in Western
Equatoria state. This assault occurred shortly after the SPLA and SAF
clashed in Abyei which resulted in the massive displacement of the
rightful natives of Abyei district. To untrained eyes, these events
seem unrelated and therefore [are] subject to separate treatment. The
LRA has been putting on a show in Juba by paying a lip service that it
is really intent on signing a peace agreement with Museveni’s

The United Nations Security Council has embarked on a mission to gather intelligence on Africa's wars and see how they might be ended.

The mission's first meeting includes discussions with the Somalian government and its opponents.

From there, officials will head to Sudan and other strife-torn nations - including the Democratic Republic of Congo and Ivory Coast.

The diplomats hope to assess what needs to be done next to push peace forward.

NAIROBI, May 11 -- Sudan cut diplomatic ties with Chad on Sunday after accusing its neighbor of backing an audacious rebel attack on the Sudanese capital.

Sudanese officials claimed to have crushed the assault on Khartoum by a Darfur rebel group known as the Justice and Equality Movement, or JEM, which crossed hundreds of miles of desert in armored pickups and struck the Omdurman suburb of the capital Saturday.
